Aroma therapy offers cedar fever solution
Published December 22, 2007
Winter and cedar allergies go hand-in-hand in the Hill Country.
For cedar fever sufferers seeking an alternative to doctor-prescribed antibiotics and steroid injections and over-the-counter medicines, there’s a natural product that’s worth a try.
It’s called Cedar X and it was developed by a registered aromatherapist in San Antonio.
Aroma therapies are products made with plant oils. Cedar X contains a trace of red cedar, plus frankincense, spruce, rosewood, blue tansy and sweet almond oil.
The product is applied to the skin — typically a dab of the oil on the wrist, up to 2 to 4 times daily. The wrists should be rubbed together and the oils breathed in deeply.
“I’m giving your body a little tiny taste of cedar, but it’s the healthy part of the cedar plant,” explained Kim Krost, co-owner of Integrative Healing Institute in San Antonio. “So, when you breath it, your body doesn’t think it’s an enemy and try to get rid of it.”
Krost said the plant oils enter the bloodstream in 15 to 20 minutes, depending on a person’s health.
She said the effect of Cedar X is “subtle. It won’t be like a Sudafed, where people get super dried-up.”
Instead, customers report that their eyes “water” less. “Or, ‘my throat doesn’t hurt, or my nose has stopped running,’” Krost said. “It stops the whole histamine effect from happening.
“You don’t have to do it ahead of the allergy season,” Krost added. “You can do it on the days the pollen is bothering you.”
Krost offers a 100 percent money-back guarantee, but she “rarely” has to refund money, she said, because about 99.5 percent of customers are satisfied.
Cedar X comes in a five milliliter bottle and costs $19.95. The ingredients are active for about 3 1/2 months or an entire allergy season. For more information, contact Krost at (210) 967-4400, or www.naturalreflexes.com.
